Where to go on a first date (and where not to)

This is the first Sunday letter, and if you joined this week, welcome. Every Sunday you'll get one story worth reading, one honest pick and one small thing to try.

This week is about the place. A good first-date spot passes three tests: you can hear each other without leaning in, you feel safe getting there and home, and you can leave after an hour without it being a scene. It doesn't need to be impressive, expensive or new.

If there's something you'd like us to write about, just hit reply. A real person reads every one.

3. One thing to try this week

Suggest a walk instead of dinner

Next time you set up a first date, suggest a late-morning coffee to go and a 30 to 40 minute walk that ends near where you both parked. Walking side by side takes the pressure off eye contact, and silences feel natural.
